The GDC highly recommends CPD in safeguarding children and young people and safeguarding adults at risk. Incisal structures this as Level 1 for the whole team and Level 2 for clinical staff — verifiable dental CPD online, with a refresh reminder so the practice is not relying on a certificate from four years ago.
Level 1: duty, harm, what to notice, how to share — for every role
Level 2: clinical recognition, adults at risk, capacity, referral and records
Children, young people and adults — including domestic abuse and FGM awareness
Refresh at least every three years, as good safeguarding practice expects
Reception, nurses and clinicians all see families. Level 1 is not optional colour. Clinical staff then need Level 2 because they examine, they hear histories, and they write the records that a referral depends on. Incisal splits the hours so you are not sending a receptionist through a clinician-only module — or leaving a dentist on a generic Level 1 forever.
Dental, not generic healthcare slides
What maltreatment can look like in the chair is not the same as a ward example. Incisal teaching stays in the surgery: injuries you might see, what you must not investigate, same-day sharing, and the practice system that keeps Level 2 current.
