What the GDC actually expects
The General Dental Council’s Enhanced CPD scheme requires dental professionals to complete a minimum number of verifiable CPD hours in each five-year cycle, with a yearly minimum, and to keep a Personal Development Plan. CPD must be relevant to your field of practice. Verifiable activity needs documented aims, outcomes, and evidence — usually a certificate from the provider.
Hours alone are not enough. If you cannot show what you planned to learn, why it mattered, which outcome it served, and what you took from it, the record is weak. That is why Incisal treats Plan, Do, Reflect and Record as one product, not four jobs.
GDC development outcomes A–D
Every Incisal course is tagged to the GDC development outcomes so you are not guessing at declaration time.
- A — Effective communication
- B — Effective management and leadership
- C — Maintenance and development of knowledge and skills in your field of practice
- D — Maintenance of skills related to your field of practice
Highly recommended CPD topics
The GDC recommends regular CPD in medical emergencies (at least 10 hours per cycle, and at least two hours every year), disinfection and decontamination (at least five hours per cycle), and radiography and radiation protection (at least five hours per cycle if you take or report radiographs). Legal and ethical issues, complaints handling, oral cancer: early detection, and safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk are also highly recommended.
Incisal publishes dedicated online courses against those topics so a practice can see coverage, not hope the team picked them up somewhere else.
How Incisal turns guidance into a working system
Create your PDP, pick courses that match the learning needs you recorded, complete them online, pass the assessment, download the certificate, and keep the reflection attached to the activity. Add external CPD so the annual and end-of-cycle picture is complete. That is Enhanced CPD as a workflow, delivered as a dental-only portal.
